GridPro Version 4.5 and GridPro MacOSX versions - March 2007

GridPro version 4.5 is now available to download. Customers with current maintenance and annual license customers can request download instruction for this version of GridPro. The main additions in version 4.5 are

  1. Shortcut keys for selecting groups of topology corners. - "a" and "g". The "a" key will allow you to select topology sheets by simply clicking on a link while holding the "a" key down in your keyboard. The use of this key has a smart and intutive feel. This will save enormous time in selection topology corners in very complex block frames. The "g" key is a shortcut key for selecting groups and works just like the "s" key. You can select topology corners one by one, or a group at once by dragging a box while keeping the "g" key presses. The "G" (capital g) deselects groups and works the same way.

  2. A new Npatches utility. A new utility for improved projection of grid on coarse triangulated surfaces. This utility is used when the given surface is coarser than the GridPro generated surface grid. We still recommend that a faceted surface should be denser than the surface grid, but in case you are not able to obtain a dense facetted surface, this utility will give you a workaround by interpolating between the coarser surface facets.

  3.  GridPro Version 4.5 is supported in Apple Macintosh computers. There are three versions for MacOSX. - for the Intel Core2Duo architecture, and the PowerPC architecture, and 64 bit PowerPC-G5 version. 64 bit Windows versions for AMD-Opteron processors are also available. We will also be putting up 64bit Linux versions for the Opteron processor soon.

  4. Ability to selectively assign topology corners to grid positions. Previously, "adjust topology position to grid" will reposition the entire topology. This is done only to current group now. If no current group is selected, it will reposition the entire group.

Version 4.4 BETA now available- Dec 3, 2004

Version 4.4 of GridPro is now available for download as a beta version. We have added a number of new capabilities in this version to give more control and automation. Some of the new features are listed below.

  1. Ability to make arbitrary space curves in three dimesions (by specifying the starting and ending points and the corresponding tangents at the point).
  2. Ability to combine 4 topology or linear curves into a Quad or linear surface using Transfinite interpolation.
  3. Ability to combine 6 linear surfaces into a single block grid using Transfinite interpolation. You can also steal sheets from an existing grid and use it as a linear surface.
  4. A new variational method for automatically creating surfaces from a string of corners and the corresponding tangents at those points. This has also been integrated into the traditional "i0 - 1" approach to further enhance the capabilities of the "i0" & "1" buttons.
  5. New shortcut key functionality for regional link and surface assignments. The "e" key has the same functionality as the "r-lk" and the "s" key can be used for surface "+" and "S"(capital s key) used for surface "-".
  6. "Mildclu" is available with version 4.4 beta. This can be used for more control in places where the traditional "clu" does not give a desirable distribution.

Version 4.4 Beta is currently available for Windows and Linux platforms.

GridPro Version 4.3 Update - Mar 12, 2004

We have been testing and developing GridPro version 4.3. GridPro version 4.3 contains a number of productivity enhancing features. We will be releasing a Beta version of 4.3 on SGI, Linux and Windows. Current users may request a Beta for their operating systems, and we will try our best to comply. Click here for an updated list of features which will be released on version 4.3 Beta.

  1. TRIM - An automatic topology generation utility which can create and accelerate the development of topology for many cases. Now, you can use Cartesian, cylindrical or any curvilinear initial structure and TRIM will automatically carve out a topology for the current surfaces and wrap and assign the corners to the surfaces. It all happens in a couple of clicks. An additional option for automatic un-inserting has been provided to reduce the number of blocks which will be created using TRIM.
  2. Auto-Split - An automatic feature based splitting option. Applied in conjunction with Split and Merge, the user can quickly split up a triangular faceted surface to a number of surfaces of his choice based on the feature lines.
  3. KUBRIX - Kubrix can be used as an alternative topology creation/ acceleration tool. Like TRIM, Kubrix is completely automatic once the surface is given. Unlike TRIM, Kubrix produces coarser topology which looks more hand-crafted than TRIM. Kubrix will require a separate license and will come at an additional cost. GridPro can now launch kubrix and automatically load in the topology produced by kubrix.
  4. Smooth - A utility to smooth and enhance/reconstruct STL type triangular faceted data. This can be launched from mini-cad.
  5. Other improvements include, a quality check and load bad blocks dialog box can be used a grid diagnostic tool, the ability to synchronize topology positions to Grid option, the ability to change topology corner positions to match the blocking structure of the current grid, a utility to interactively create tube surfaces from topology corners. and the ability to launch thin from mini-cad.

Version 4.3 underway - Oct 16, 2003

GridPro version 4.3, which will feature a number of new features and some more bug fixes, is in its development cycle and is planned for release at the end of the year. The new features in 4.3 will substantially improve the productivity of your GridPro usage. The new features for version 4.3 will be

  1. An automatic feature based surface dissection button in the minicad panel. This will allow users to automatically dissect triangular surfaces at the click of a button. The original option of the users manually selecting paths to dissect the surface is still available and can be used to supplement the automatic part.
  2. A smoothing/reconstruction operation for triangular faceted surfaces. This can be used for smoothing out rough surface triangluations and can also improve on a coarse triangualtion. For example, triangular faceted surfaces obtained from CT scans etc can be improved very effectively using this.
  3. A grid quality check button which will display the quality metrics like cell skewness, smoothness, warpage, aspect ratio in a dialog box. An interative button in this dialog box will allow users to display grid severities based on different qualtiy metric thresholds. This is essentially an interactive supplement for the qchk utility.
  4. Option to use simulation work's Kubrix as an automatic topology generation program. Kubrix is a program which will produce a coarse hex mesh or topology assigned to surfaces in GridPro. This will automate the procedure of generating topology in GridPro for many cases. For most cases, users will also be able to use Kubrix as a topology accelerator - and quickly produce a topology using kubrix which can be modified interactively in the AZ manager.
  5. An automatic trimming and wrapping button which will further automate the creation of topology. The trim button will automatically trim and wrap a topology for a list of surfaces. Users can use this to automate creation of parts of the topology and use features like group link and regional link to interactively bridge them into one single topology.
  6. A additional clustering utility (mildclu) which will help in providing better control of the near wall spacing parameters. This is especially useful for turbulence simulations where the y+ spacing parameters are crucial.

Version 4.2.1 Released - Sept 21, 2002

The best Hex grid generation tool just got better.
The latest version of GridPro has been released. GridPro Version 4.2.1 has the following new features compared to GridPro Version 4.1.

  2. Support for more solver formats ( CGNS, DTF, ACUSIM ). These can be accessed interactively using GridPro's 'Property setter'.
  3. A new utility called 'Nest' which can be accessed from GridPro's GUI. Nest automates the creation of topology for handling small features ( like thin oil wells, blood vessels, and other places where the local grid size is of a much smaller order than the field grid size) to produce smoothly transitioning grids.
  4. A new wrap feature called 'Internal wrap' which automates topology creation for producing smooth grids across non-matching boundaries ( for example, features like fault lines).
  5. A new aspect ratio check option in GridPro's quality check.
  6. An improved way of handling interactive repair of geometry in GridPro's 'Minicad' which makes the process of CAD repair of triangular files more streamlined and efficient.
  7. Porting to and debugging on newer platforms such as HP-UX 11.00, Win2000 and Windows XP.
  8. The GridPro license manager shipped with version 4.2 works without the need for the NetBIOS in Win2000 and WinXP machines.
  9. An option for custom defined length scale for wrap.
  10. Finalized and debugged versions of features like 'Group Linking' and 'Smart Regional linking' of topology and some more bug fixes for other features.
