  It is well known and elementary that the Riemannian sectional curvature function of a Riemannian manifold determines the curvature tensor uniquely. It is even possible to express the curvature tensor components explicitly in terms of the values of the sectional curvature on various 2-planes. However, the formulais sufficiently complicated that it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to see how various properties of the sectional curvature are reflected in the curvature tensor.
