  It is well-known that one method of obtaining a nontrivial function in C^p(X, R) with bounded support is to compose a C^p-norm on X with such a function in C^p(R, R). Consequently, Hilbert spaces are C^∞-smooth as a norm given by an inner product is a C^∞-norm.
