It is well-known that one method of obtaining a nontrivial function in Cp(X, R) with bounded support is to compose a Cp-norm on X with such a function in Cp(R, R). Consequently, Hilbert spaces are C∞-smooth as a norm given by an inner product is a C∞-norm.
